Do I need a Living Will?
Most people want to make their own decisions about what will happen to them at the end of their life. These decisions include whether to allow a healthcare provider to withhold, or require them to provide, food, water and medical care if you no longer have decisional capacity, have a terminal condition, or become permanently unconscious. You have the option of choosing someone else to make that decision. You can decide whether to give all or any part of your body upon death and for what purpose: research, education, transplantation or therapy. Some or all of these options may be okay, but you are unlikely to have a Living Will that actually gives you these choices unless your attorney is experienced in giving you these choices.
Should I have an Advance Directive for Mental Health Treatment?
Do you have preferences for psychiatric hospitals, physicians, medications, and treatment (electroconvulsive therapy, restraint, and seclusion)? If so, you should have an Advance Directive.
