What is a "Do Not Resuscitate" (DNR) Order?
In the event of cardiac or respiratory arrest, if you have a DNR and your heart stops beating or if you stop breathing, then no medical procedure to restart breathing or heart function like CPR will be started by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. A DNR will not prevent EMS from providing other medical care. If you educate yourself on the risks of resuscitation, then you can make an informed decision as to whether this is right for you.
